Shakti Beckons the Goddess

It’s an exciting time to be a woman! In this age, specifically, I believe we women are being called to reclaim our feminine powers…….to be passionate agents for change in our world, as we also create a more empowered relationship with our Selves, with our loved ones and with each other! To more proactively step into our roles as teachers, mothers, leaders, healers and lovers, we need to become vibrant, healthy and clear channels, allowing and embracing a higher frequency to move us, collectively, forward. This high vibration is Shakti. Do you hear her call?

Shakti is that very powerful and primordial feminine reservoir of energy that predominately resides in our root chakras – the pelvic floor. It is the life-force. It is the energy of manifestation. Quite literally, shakti is the first movement of creation. This is what makes it so innately feminine. It is earthy. It is lively and passionate. This female essence is nudging us to move and integrate her throughout our whole bodies, for overall healing and to share her with the universe. We can manifest miracles while in this energy field!

In the ancient yogic practice of kundalini (rising), the feminine aspect, shakti, is awakened within the pelvic floor. Her powerful energy ascends the spine, electrifying the cerebral spinal fluid, reaching up to the medulla oblongata, that divot at the base of the skull. The Medulla, also known as the mouth of the Goddess, is the feminine portal to cosmic consciousness. She then travels up through the brain stimulating the hypothalamus, pineal and pituitary glands as she meets Shiva (the masculine) essence, where cosmic intercourse is experienced, and the unity within Self and All that Is, is realized. In my practice we awaken and transmute this energy, using undulating yoga asanas (movements), pranayama (breath), mudras (hand gestures) and mantras (sounds). We expand back into Oneness. It is Divine!

As you can sense, Shakti energy is lively, spontaneous and wild. It is the energy of freedom. It is also sensual, in nature. The closest experience most of us know to shakti energy is sexual energy. It’s why I find tantric practices so healing. Shakti is really the undercurrent of sexual energy-all energy, for that matter. Even the Dalai Lama practices tantra as an inner meditation of integration. Yes, one can tap into shakti energy while meditating or making love. She can also be aroused while dancing, laughing, singing, swimming with dolphins, or climbing a mountain…….You get the point. It’s exhilarating! Because this energy urges us to integrate the polarities, she wants us to experience and love all of life’s experiences and our parts. She wants us to experience the extremes so to know what integration, the middle way (center) is.

The key to personal and planetary potential is in awakening and integrating this co-creative feminine force within ALL of us – the primal power, liveliness, love, sensuality, connection, creativity, meaning, belonging…… These are feminine treasures. Women, especially, yearn to share these more intimate aspects that lie within. We possess that cellular memory of unity as pure light. It’s time to come together as women and share our light more fully- To be the change. All will feel the ‘ripple effect’. As the Dalai Lama recently said while giving a lecture, in my home-town, “The world will be saved by the western woman”. “Some people may call me a feminist, but we need more effort to promote basic human values-human compassion, human affections….and in that respect, females have this sensitivity for others’ pain and suffering”. ……………It’s an amazing time to be a woman. It’s exciting to just be alive!
