Q: As I am Catholic/Christian, will practicing yoga interfere with my Religion in any way?…It seems to have become so mainstream.
A: The practice of yoga is simply about recognizing the unity of all that is and in feeling the divine in the process. So, Yoga, is also very God-centered. It’s all about integration anyway. So of course, you can continue to practice your religion, while also enjoying the benefits of the yogic tradition.
I believe people, in general, are becoming more conscious and realize more than ever that there are numerous ways in which to heal the whole body. Yoga has become mainstream because the old paradigms to healing are changing. There is more of an interest and openness in Eastern methods to heal the body. We have created a fast-paced world, where our bodies and minds, for the most part, are in constant motion. As we’re becoming more aware, we just know, intuitively, at a higher level, that we need to slow down. People today are recognizing the need for counter-balancing the busyness. After all, being in a state of frenzy does indeed affect our biology-physical body, as well as the subtle body.
